Anuenue, a Hawai'i rainbow

Anuenue means rainbow in the Hawaiian language, and to us, this habitual and unique representation of nature not only reinforces the aloha feel of Hawaii but they are also are a reminder of the diversity of humankind.

Rainbows are the universal sign that represents a plethora of people that are good and valuable to all, as a society and as a species. Rainbows also need other conditions to come together to display their beauty, a combination of trade winds, cumulus cloud coverage, mountainous terrain, and clean air.

Just like them, humans, need others like or unlike them to find purpose and achieve happiness. Our dear Val, Anuenue's executive pastry chef, is a beautiful human full of artistry and kindness. He is also part of the LGTBQ+ community.

He is an artist that has dedicated years to his recipes and cake designs. Val started baking with his mom when he was only four years old and fell deeply in love with it. After being given the chance to be part of the Grand Wailea he felt confident enough to lead our bakery and display to the world his ability to create beautiful and delightful desserts and bread.
